Come Hither.

Perhaps otherwise.
Well, my parents are always shocking me with their theories of upbringing. The other day we were just having conversations over Famous Amos and coffee, and of course, discussing how to teach Keith to be a responsible person. Apparently, my dad would rather Keith coming back a little later just so to send his girlfriend safely home (if he has one), than to come home immediately and game, letting his girlfriend head home herself.
This may sound normal, if it was an expectation from the girlfriend's parents, but hearing it from my own dad, expecting that his son sends someone else's daughter back safely, I'm impressed.
My dad is a true man.
My mom, on the other hand, expects a guy to send her daughter home. And she never fails to ask whether the person I'm out with (if it was a guy) sent me home. I think she uses it as some sort of gauge to judge how responsible the person is. She's full of it, these 'judgement gauge' thing. But she's a cool mom. Honestly, I think parents are there to judge your friends, partners, etc, for you, from an unbiased point of view. And very often, they could be more right than you think.
Then again, there's the very selfish kind of parents, or rather, I would say, selfish moms. They expect guys to send their daughters home safely, but not the other way round, that their sons send their own girlfriends home. Why? Because their girlfriends " ... can find their own way home. Take a cab if necessary, don't waste your time sending her back. How big is Singapore? She won't get lost," etc.
And very often, such direct interference from a parent is the cause of failed relationships. We girls aren't stupid, or ignorant. We sense the disapproval, and we react towards it - through repulsion.
I wonder, what kind of persons have they brought up their sons to be? Mommy's boy? Irresponsible? Self-centered? Insensitive? Careless?
Parents, I think they can only give good advices, encouraging their child, warning them, and not through means of enforcements. You don't need a genius to identify a demanding parent, and to categorize the son into the "Mommy's Boy" spectrum of loser-ness.
For constantly guiding my choices in all aspects, giving me space to reflect, and not forcing your opinions on me, thanks, mom and dad :3
Wake up, sonny boy.
